What is a first session like?
Our first session will be a 60-minute consultation, during which I’ll do my best to understand you and the unique history and concerns that bring you in. Towards the end, I’ll share my perspective on your concerns and how I may be able to help you. We’ll also reserve time to answer any questions that you may have about my training, experience, and style. It’s extremely important to me that you feel comfortable with your therapist and our first session should give you a better sense of what it’s like to work with me. If we’ve decided that we’re a good match, we’ll then schedule a regular time where we can continue our work together.
When do you offer appointments?
I currently offer appointments between 8:30 and 6:00, Tuesday through Thursday. Many of my clients find it most helpful to schedule a set weekly time, so that I can reserve this space for you. Please contact me to see if we can find a good mutual time to meet.
What is your training and professional background?
I received my Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology in Minnesota and have a Psy.D. instead of a Ph.D., which means that my training emphasized hands-on clinical work more than research and teaching. Over the course of my career, I’ve been fortunate enough to provide therapy to clients of all ages, backgrounds, and concerns. Prior to running my own practice, I worked with students at ASU and other universities, with veterans in residential settings, supervised several group therapy programs, and served as the training director at a large community mental health center.
How do I determine my what my insurance covers?
In order to determine your mental health coverage, you may find it helpful to ask your insurance company the following questions. As always, please feel free to contact me with questions as well!
Do I have benefits for mental health services?
Do I have a deductible and, if so, has it been met?
How many sessions per year does my plan cover?
Do I have a co-payment and, if so, how much is it?
What is the coverage amount for out-of-network providers?
Is pre-approval required from my primary care physician?
What is your cancellation / missed appointment policy?
Appointments that are missed or cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will be charged a $100 fee. Please note that this fee is not covered by insurance benefits. If you have any concerns about your ability to make your appointment, please contact me and I will work to make alternative arrangements with you.
